Scott takes third to lead Storm at Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa -- DeVaughn Scott wrestled to a third-place finish to lead Simpson at Cornell's Cliff Keen Mike Duroe Invitational on Saturday.

Scott went 5-1 in the 197-pound bracket as the Storm finished 13th in the team standings with 31.5 points. Cornell won the meet with 97.5 points.

Meet Highlights
• Scott continued his torrid start to the season, improving to 16-3. He started the day with a 10-5 decision over Jacob Harvey (Olivet) before suffering a 6-3 loss to Trevor Walton (Wartburg). He proceeded to roll through the back side of the bracket, pinning Bryce Kallenbach (Concordia-Moorhead), beating Jacob Arends (Concordia-Moorhead) by tech fall and edging Costas Hatzipavildes (Iowa State Club) 7-3. He closed the day with a 9-1 major decision over Kevin Pape (Buena Vista).
Shyler Langley had a busy day at 184, going 3-2. He pinned Hunter Jarvis (Augustana) in the first round then beat Clayton Higelmire (Olivet) 3-2 in round two. He lost a decision to William Storch (Wis.-La Crosse) before edging Hiram Robinson (Olivet) 4-3 in sudden victory. His day ended with a 12-6 loss to Derek Venteicher (Loras)
Sam Mathis won 2 of 3 matches at 285. He won back-to-back matches to close the day after starting with a loss. He finished his day on a high note, pinning Guy Snow (Coe).
Damon Piatt went 2-2 at 174 pounds. He lost by decision to start the day, then scored back-to-back pins over Jacob Sherzer (Cornell) and Luke Wilson (Augsburg).
