Bauer, Brown, Scott lead Storm at Doane Open

CRETE, Neb. -- Blake Bauer, RJ Brown and DeVaughn Scott each finished the day with two victories to lead the Simpson wrestling team Saturday at the Doane Open.

Bauer went 2-2 at 157 pounds, losing his first match to Jake Silverstein (Nebraska Wesleyan) before pinning Carsen Paynter (Jamestown (N.D.)) and Brody Kacmarynski (Morningside). He finished his day with a 9-3 loss to Noah Rutjens (Iowa Western).

Brown went 2-2 at 165, also losing his first match against Talon Seitz (Nebraska Kearney). He rattled off wins against Nicolas Desch (Bethany) 16-1 and Breyden Ebbs (Grand View) by fall before losing by injury default to Brandon Burgos (Iowa Western).

Scott went 2-2 at 197 winning his first match against Elijah Dirkx (Morningside) 20-5. Jackson Ryan (Southwest Minnesota State) got the best of Scott 6-5, and then Scott pinned Dustin Mason (Bethany). A narrow 9-7 loss to Zeke Silva (Northeast Oklahoma) ended his day.

Four other storm wrestlers were able to notch wins in the tournament. Dylan McChesney (125) won by fall over Taylor Holman (Bethany) and Jacob Irwin (133) beat Xylon Takata (Dakota Wesleyan) 10-8 in overtime. Shyler
Langley and Sam Mathis both won their first matches, as Langley edged Zachary Wendle (Midland) and Mathis topped Colten Wheeler (Bethany).
