Fisher, Haag sweep IIAC weekly accolades

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Simpson's Riley Fisher earned Iowa Conference Pitcher of the Week honors and Tori Haag took home Player of the Week accolades as the Storm swept the first softball awards of the season, the league office announced Tuesday.

A senior from Des Moines, Iowa, Fisher went 3-0 with two saves and a 1.91 ERA for the Storm at the Finlandia Dome Tournament on Feb. 26-28. Haag, a senior from Waukee, Iowa, hit .429 with two home runs and nine RBIs to help Simpson to a 5-2 mark on opening weekend.

Fisher earns the third IIAC Pitcher of the Week honor of her career while the Player of the Week award is the first Haag's career.

Fisher struck out 23 batters on the weekend and held opponents to a .185 batting average. She went the distance and struck out six in Simpson's 11-4 upset win over then-No. 25 Wis.-Oshkosh, struck out 11 in a 4-3 win over Lakeland and threw a complete-game two-hitter in an 8-0 rout of Wis.-Superior. Simpson won all five games in which Fisher appeared in the circle.

Haag reached safely in all seven games last weekend, collecting nine hits and four walks. Just two weeks removed from the swimming season, Haag went 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs in the win over Oshkosh. She drove in two in the win over Lakeland and led off a 6-5 win over Concordia (Wis.) with a solo homer.
