Storm tally wins over tournament contenders Trine, Thomas More

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Simpson softball team picked up two more big wins Sunday at the Rebel Spring Games, beating 2015 NCAA Regional Qualifiers Trine and Thomas More. The Storm beat Trine 3-2 and Thomas More 6-3.

The Storm (10-3) trailed 2-0 before getting three runs in the sixth to beat Trine. Simpson never trailed against Thomas More as Rachel Guessford's solo homer in the fifth proved to be the difference.

Simpson 3, Trine 2
Down 2-0 in the sixth, the Storm scored a pair of runs off hit batters before Arianna Kim drove in the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded infield single. Abbie VanVleet (4-0) went the distance in the circle, striking out five. The Thunder put the go-ahead run at second with one out in the seventh before VanVleet got Kaylee Fox swinging and got Lainey McCue to fly out to left.

Simpson 6, Thomas More 3
Simpson led 2-1 after four but tacked on two more in the fifth, one on a passed ball and the other on Guessford's second home run of the season, a solo shot to left. Grace Hall doubled and scored on a passed ball in the sixth and Tori Haag made it 6-2 with a RBI double down the left field line. Riley Fisher (5-0) surrendered 10 hits and walked three but kept the damage to a minimum in the complete-game effort.
