Guessford named IIAC Player of the Week

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Simpson first baseman Rachel Guessford hit three home runs in Saturday's doubleheader sweep over Iowa Wesleyan to earn Iowa Conference Position Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, March 20.

A senior from Des Moines, Iowa, Guessford abused Tiger pitching to the tune of six hits, 10 RBIs and five runs scored. She went 6-for-7 on the day, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs in game one and 3-for-3 with one home run and five RBIs in game two.

Both of Guessford's game one home runs cam in a nine-run fourth inning. Her first was a two-run moon shot that went off the light pole in left center and her second was a three-run bomb.

She added a three-run blast in the nightcap, moving her conference-leading home run total to six for the season. She also leads the league in RBIs (23) and is second in hits (29).

Guessford becomes the fourth different Simpson player to earn IIAC Player or Pitcher of the Week honors in 2016. Riley Fisher (Pitcher of the Week) and Tori Haag (Player of the Week) swept the award on Feb. 28 and Abbie VanVleet was named Pitcher of the Week on March 6.

The IIAC accolade is the first of Guessford's career.

The Storm (19-5) are off until Friday, April 1 when they host Wis.-La Crosse in a doubleheader at Simpson Softball Complex.
