Storm add two more close wins in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – A pair of stellar pitching performances and some clutch hitting powered the Simpson softball team to a pair of wins Monday at the Rebel Spring Games, as the Storm beat Bluffton 2-1 in eight innings and Husson 3-0.

Abbie VanVleet threw a complete-game two-hitter in the opener and Riley Fisher went the distance with seven strikeouts in game two. The Storm (12-3) extended their winning streak to six games and are now 5-2 in one-run games.

Brianna Chaplin hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth to score pinch-runner Devon Wood as the Storm prevailed despite stranding 10 runners on the basepaths. VanVleet (5-0) struck out five and walked just one in the two-hitter, adding two hits of her own. Taylor Davis drove in the first run of the game on a single in the first, scoring Tori Haag who led off the game with a double.

Simpson 3, Husson 0
Rachel Guessford homered in the fourth, drove in all three Simpson runs and Haag finished with three hits and a double. Fisher (6-0) remained perfect on the year, allowing just two baserunners and striking out four in the final three frames.
