Softball set for Rebel Spring Games

The Simpson softball team is set for its annual trip to Florida for the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee. The Storm will play 14 games in eight days beginning Friday, March 4. 

The Storm (5-2) are set to play two teams ranked in the NFCA Top 25 and six teams that qualified for the 2015 NCAA Tournament.

Storm Quick Hits
• The Storm went 5-2 at the Finlandia Dome Tournament in Marquette, Mich. last weekend. Simpson ended the weekend on a three-game winning streak.

• Simpson swept the first IIAC Player/Pitcher of the Week honors for the period ending March 1 as catcher Tori Haag earned player of the week honors and pitcher Riley Fisher earned pitcher of the week accolades. Haag hit .429 with two home runs and nine RBIs and Fisher went 3-0 with two saves and a 1.91 ERA.

• Haag's solo home run to lead off the Feb. 28 contest against Concordia (Wis.) gave her 17 for her career, moving her into second place in program history.

• Simpson hit eight long balls at the Superior Dome last weekend, getting three from sophomore Brianna Chaplin. Haag had two while Fisher, Rachel Guessford and Taylor Davis had one apiece.

• On a team loaded with veterans, three freshman saw significant time on opening weekend. Devon Wood had a hit, an RBI and scored three runs in four games, Arianna Kim had an RBI and scored two runs in four games and Ashley Allen walked and scored a run in three games.
