McEntee named IIAC Defensive Player of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Goalkeeper Zach McEntee earned Iowa Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Sept. 21.

A junior from West Des Moines, Iowa, McEntee helped the Storm to a 3-1 record during the week, including shutout wins over Fontbonne (1-0 in overtime) and Illinois Wesleyan (2-0). He closed the week with a 3-1 win over Wisconsin-Whitewater, in which he saved a penalty-kick attempt to preserve a 1-1 tie in the first half. It marked his second save on a PK attempt this season.

McEntee posted a 0.75 goals-against average during the week with 11 saves. His 0.91 goals-against average ranks second in the Iowa Conference this season and his three shutouts are tied for first.

The award is the first for McEntee, who is in his first year as a full-time starter.

The Storm (8-3) open Iowa Conference play against Wartburg on Saturday at Buxton Stadium. The Knights (5-2-1) were picked second in the Iowa Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll and started the season ranked 16th in Division III. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
