White ties school record, men's soccer beats Illinois Wesleyan 2-0

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Goals by Louis Joslyn and Mitchell White propelled the Simpson men's soccer team to a 2-0 win against Illinois Wesleyan at Indianola Middle School on Friday night.

Joslyn headed in Simpson's first goal off a set piece from Marcus Varnum in the 23rd minute and White added an insurance tally in the 85th minute for the Storm (6-3), who have won four of their last five.

White headed in a cross from Cody Jacobson to collect career goal No. 36, tying the school record also held by Angel Salcido (2002-05). He entered the season with 34 career goals and had been on a five-game drought before Friday.

"I think the entire team was excited for Mitchell, not because he tied our record but because he's been working so hard to have a statistical impact," head coach Rick Isaacson said. "It was a terrific build that led to the play and Mitchell made an athletic play to put the ball on frame."

Joslyn continued his clutch play by connecting on his fourth game-winner of the season and third in the last five games. Despite moving from the midfield to center back due to an injury to Drew Johnston, Joslyn is finding more ways to score.

"He's got a knack for scoring big goals and pulling through for us when we need someone to be a hero," Isaacson said.

Zach McEntee made three saves in his second shutout of the season.

Colin Rathe, Mitch Billimack and Jeff Neukom all put shots on goal for the Titans (4-5), who outshot Simpson 7-4 in the first half before being outshot 9-4 in the second.

Simpson returns to action Sunday, Sept. 21 when UW-Whitewater visits Buxton Stadium. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
