Varnum, White head All-Iowa Conference selections

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Simpson's Marcus Varnum and Mitchell White earned second team all-conference honors and three other individuals were recognized as league office announced the 2014 All-Conference Men's Soccer team on Wednesday.

Josh Harry, Louis Joslyn and Tyler Neumann all earned honorable mention honors.

2014 All-Iowa Conference Men's Soccer Team

A junior midfielder from Ankeny, Iowa, Varnum finished second on the team with 14 points, scoring four goals and tying for the team lead with six assists. The Storm's field general, Varnum becomes a three-time all-conference performer after taking home first team honors in 2013 and honorable mention honors in 2012.

A senior forward from Decorah, Iowa, White closed the book on his Simpson career as the program's all-time leader in goals and points. He scored a team-high eight goals to go along with two assists in 2014, giving him 42 career goals and 92 points. A first team all-conference pick in 2013, White led Simpson by going 2-for-3 in penalty kick attempts this fall.

A sophomore defender from Clive, Iowa, Harry tied for the team-lead with six assists from the back line. He also scored one goal on the season, coming up with the game-winner in a 1-0 triumph over Saint Mary's (Minn.).

A junior defending midfielder from Baldwin, Kan., Joslyn was the Storm's go-to performer in the clutch, leading the team with four game-winners. Also a great student, Joslyn was a Capital One Academic All-District 8 First Team selection.

A junior midfielder from Johnston, Iowa, Neumann led Simpson with four goals and nine points in IIAC play. He finished with five goals and two assists on the season and scored one game-winner. Neumann joins Varnum as a three-time all-conference honoree after taking home second team honors in 2012 and 2013.

Simpson went 12-9 in 2014, posting a 3-4 record in the Iowa Conference to place fifth.

IIAC Awards

Senior forward Dan Nadeau of conference tournament champion Wartburg was named Offensive MVP and senior midfielder Mike Pizzello of regular season champion Loras earned Defensive MVP honors. Wartburg head coach Kirk Artist was the Coach of the Year in the conference.
