White breaks scoring record as men's soccer blanks Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Mitchell White set the school record for points in a career, Tyler Neumann scored two goals and the Simpson men's soccer team let out some frustration by beating Coe 7-0 on Saturday.

White connected on his seventh goal of the season in the 16th minute, giving him 90 career points to break the record set by Angel Salcido (89 from 2002-05).

The senior has 41 career goals – also a record – and eight assists.

"Mitchell White achieved another remarkable milestone today," head coach Rick Isaacson said. "The staff and Mitchell's teammates are all very proud of him. Breaking that record was accomplished through four years of hard work. He is a great representative of our program and very deserving of these records."

Neumann scored the first goal of the game less than 30 seconds in, connecting on an assist from Marcus Varnum at the 24-second mark.

White's goal made it 2-0 and freshman Flynn Collins scored his first career goal to give the Storm (11-7, 2-3 Iowa Conference) a 3-0 lead at halftime.

A team with high expectations entering the season, Simpson had lost 3 of 4 conference matches entering Saturday.

"This was a significant win for our team," Isaacson said. "We found ourselves in a position where we desperately needed to come away with three points, and we did just that."

Neumann opened the scoring in the second half for his first multi-goal game of the season.

Kyle Kusy, Collin Hemann and Joe Fairchild all added goals for Simpson.

Zach McEntee made three saves in 61 minutes of net-minding and Eric Hoar made two saves for the Kohawks (3-12, 0-4).
