Held’s weekend performance leads to A-R-C honor

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- After striking out nine in a complete-game victory against Luther on Sunday, Simpson College baseball junior Brady Held was awarded the American Rivers Conference Pitcher of the Week honor, the league announced Monday.

This is Held's second weekly award this season and third overall in his career. The Indianola native was selected as the Position Player of the Week on March 1 after the Storm swept their season-opening series at Illinois College.

Held led Simpson to a 3-1 triumph on Sunday while holding the Norse to just one run for the third time all season, first by an A-R-C opponent. Held allowed just four hits to snap Luther's seven-game winning streak while picking up his third victory this season.

At the plate, Held tallied seven hits in 11 at-bats in the four contests at Luther, including a home run in the series finale to showcase his power. He was also responsible for driving in two runners, while scoring on five occasions.

The Storm play inside McBride Field for the final time of the regular season this weekend. Dubuque visits for a four-game set that begins Friday at 3:30 p.m.
