Simpson receiving votes in latest D3baseball.com poll

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- After starting the season with a doubleheader sweep, the Simpson College baseball team is receiving votes in the latest D3baseball.com Top-25 Poll of the year.

The Storm (2-0) are the lone American Rivers Conference program represented in the rankings with 10 votes.

Simpson opened its season Feb. 27 with a twinbill at Illinois College. The offense piled on seven runs in the first contest to win 7-3 and followed up with an 8-4 triumph.

Junior Brady Held highlighted the opening weekend by garnering A-R-C Position Player of the Week honors after collecting three hits at the plate with a double to drive in two runners. He also tallied one walk and hit .429 after seven at-bats. On the hill, he tossed four innings while starting the opener and allowed three hits, two runs and three walks while striking out six.

In addition to Held, seniors Kolton Arnold and Noah Sacco each have three hits to pace the team. Sacco is batting .600 with three runs scored. Junior Luke Willis has driven in three base runners for the most on the squad.

Junior Colton Major made his first appearance on the mound for Simpson in game two by tossing four innings in relief. He allowed just two hits while striking out five batters. Freshman Trey Castile had a stellar first outing in three innings of work in the opener and allowed just one hit with three strikeouts.

The Storm return to action tomorrow at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota to take on Bethel for a doubleheader. The first game will begin at noon.
