Simpson baseball’s Held collects weekly award

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Junior Brady Held did it all for the Simpson College baseball team in its opening weekend to be named the American Rivers Conference Position Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

This is the second weekly honor in Held's career after he was named the Pitcher of the Week on March 11, 2019 as a freshman. The Storm's last honorees of a weekly award were Brady Leonard and Kolton Arnold last season. The duo were selected nearly a year ago on March 2, 2020 for their performances.

Held provided a spark in Simpson's opening weekend to sweep Illinois College, 7-3 and 8-4 on Saturday in Jacksonville, Illinois. The Indianola native collected three hits at the plate with a double to drive in two runners. He also tallied one walk and is hitting .429 after seven at-bats.

On the hill, Held tossed four innings while starting the opener. He allowed three hits, two runs and three walks while striking out six. Held's six strikeouts are the third most in the league this season.

Simpson is back on the diamond next week to play Bethel (Minn.) at U.S. Bank Stadium, home of the Minnesota Vikings. Action will begin at noon on Wednesday, March 10 to start the doubleheader.
