Big plays highlight twinbill sweep of Nebraska Wesleyan

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- A one-hit shutout and a grand slam highlighted Simpson College baseball's series-opening sweep of Nebraska Wesleyan on Friday. The Storm won 2-0 in the opener and collected an 8-5 triumph in game two.

Colton Major allowed just three baserunners to reach and lost his no-hitter in the sixth inning off a bunt in his complete-game effort. Josh Breitbarth blasted his third home run in five contests in the nightcap to drive in four runs with one swing for the Storm (9-15, 6-12 A-R-C).

Game One: Simpson 2, Nebraska Wesleyan 0
Major started his afternoon with a strikeout to begin the American Rivers Conference clash. He allowed a baserunner in the second, before Brady Held threw him out at first on an inning-ending double play on a fly ball to right field.

The junior was dealing through the first four innings before the Prairie Wolves (8-21, 6-16 A-R-C) placed a runner in scoring position for the first time in the sixth. He finished the frame unharmed and worked a one-two-three seventh to preserve the one-hitter. Major ended with six strikeouts.

Held rewarded Major's performance with a run in third after he drilled a double to the gap to score Noah Sacco. Freshman Zach Fuller tallied his first career RBI in the fourth to widen the tilt to 2-0.

Keaton DeKock and Held both ended with two hits for the squad.

Game Two: Simpson 8, Nebraska Wesleyan 5
Both teams were scoreless through 3.5 innings until Ryan Willis lifted a ball to center for a sacrifice fly.

Breitbarth's homer increased the lead to 5-0 in the fifth to aid Held on the mound. Breitbarth returned in the sixth with a two-run double, just two batters after Kolton Arnold drove in Sacco with a single.

The Prairie Wolves scored their first runs of the day in the eighth after going scoreless through the last 14. The visitors tallied three hits to score five runs in the frame to make it an 8-5 contest.

Brett Kauzlarich secured his second save of the season to clinch the sweep.

Breitbarth and Willis each had two hits to help the team finish with nine.
