Men's track & field crowns four at Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – John Cord won the long jump and javelin throw and the Simpson men's track and field team crowned four champions at the Cornell Invitational on Saturday.

No team scores were kept.

Cord leapt 21-feet to win the long jump and hurled the javelin 177-feet, 6 inches to best the field.

Simpson's other individual first-place effort came from Mitchell Davis, who won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:07.81.

The Storm's 4x400-meter relay team of Brice Sheeder, Leif Jeppson, Devan Quam and Anthony Burton provided the other first-place finish, breaking the tape in 3:25.74.

Sheeder (400, 51.41) and Jeppson (800, 1:59.75) added second-place performances while Ted Heying (400-meter hurdles, 59.46) produced a third-place finish.

Simpson goes to the Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines on April 12-13.
