10 track athletes named Academic All-District

INDIANOLA, Iowa - A total of 10 athletes on the Simpson College men and women's track and field and cross country teams were named to the Academic All-District teams, as announced by the College Sports Communicators on Wednesday.

The College Sports Communicators, formerly known as College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes track & field/cross country honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. The full teams can be viewed by clicking HERE.

Five men received the honor in Max Cleveland, Andrew Klein, Clarke Latcham, Spencer Moon, and Ean Warrick. Cleveland, a triple major in human services, psychology, and religion, is fresh off his All-American award at the NCAA Championships and is named to his first career Academic All-District team. The local product from Indianola was Simpson's first track and field All-American since 2018. Another participant at the national meet, Moon is receiving his second career Academic All-District award, with his first coming in the 2021 season. The junior, majoring in accounting and management, is coming off another stellar campaign, winning four conference titles and being named the conference's track MVP in the indoor and outdoor seasons. Moon also took home All-American honors at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in November.

Klein, Latcham, and Warrick also each received the honor for the first time. Klein, a sophomore from Des Moines and a mathematics major, had a hugely successful outdoor season, running career-bests in four events and placing seventh in the 10,000 meters at the American Rivers Conference Championships. Also a sophomore, Latcham greatly improved in the multi events in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Majoring in chemistry, the Wellman, Iowa native is tied for third all-time in school history in the heptathlon after his performance at the A-R-C Championships. Warrick, a junior from Ames, Iowa, rounds off the men's honors. A computer science major, Warrick became the tenth Storm athlete in history to break the 15 minute barrier in the 5,000 meters at the Kip Janvrin Open last month.

Five Storm women also were named to the team. Audrey Arnold, Maddie Hays, Aaliyah Johnson, Lara Kallem, and Ashley Rockhold all received their first Academic All-District honor. Arnold, a sophomore from Glenwood, Iowa, specializes in the hurdles for the Storm. A double major in health and exercise science and biology, she currently ranks fourth all-time in school history with a mark of 9.21 in the indoor 60 meter hurdles set earlier this year. Hays, a versatile performer from Erie, Co., earns the honor and is majoring in marketing communication. She took fourth in the 400 meter hurdles at the A-R-C Championships and ranks in the top 10 in school history in four events.

Johnson, a sophomore from Irving, Tex., received her first all-conference honor after a third-place finish at the A-R-C Championships in the heptathlon. A biochemistry major, Johnson also moved into fourth all-time in school history in the indoor high jump. Kallem, a mathematics major, had a hugely successful year in the distance events for the Storm. The sophomore from Dallas Center, Iowa set the school record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:37.20. Kallem also ranks in the all-time lists in the indoor 3,000, 5,000 and outdoor 10,000 meters. Rockhold concludes the Storm honorees. A health and exercise science major, the local product from Indianola is on the all-time list in the indoor 3,000 and 5,000 meters.

All Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 28 (women) and June 29 (men).
