Fifty student-athletes named to spring academic all-conference team

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Simpson College saw 50 of its spring sport athletes earn a spot on the American Rivers Conference All-Academic Team, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Simpson's 50 honorees were good for fifth in the conference, with men's track and field leading the way with 14 honorees. Women's track and field and softball each added 11 student-athletes. The total of 11 student-athletes for softball also was the highest number for any other softball program in the conference. Baseball contributed a further nine athletes to Simpson's total, while men's tennis (3) and men's golf (2) rounded out the final five recipients.

To be eligible for All-Academic Team honors, a student-athlete must be on the eligibility list for the sports of nomination, at least a sophomore in academic standing with at least one year in residence and attain an accumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better (on a 4.0 scale).
