Storm continue preparation for conference championships

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Simpson College track and field teams competed at the Dr. Tucker Open hosted by Loras, the final meet before next week's American Rivers Conference Championships.

Cade Mash and James Murray turned in great performances in the men's 1,500 meters. Murray, currently third all-time in school history, clocked a 3:55.84 in the event and Mash became the 10th Storm runner to break the four-minute barrier with a time of 3:57.48, good for eighth all-time.

Max Cleveland led the sprinters in the 100 meter hurdles, running a season-best 14.52 to win the event. His time was just 0.04 seconds off his career-best. Kendrick Achebe also turned in a solid performance, setting career-bests in the 100 meters (11.07) and the 200 meters (22.80).

The women's track saw another great day from Teghan Booth, clocking a 4:55.81 in the 1,500 meters, becoming the first Storm runner this year under the five-minute barrier. Madison Hays entered the record list in the 400 meters, breaking the one-minute barrier for the first time in her career with a time of 58.64, good for fifth place all-time. Aryss Forbes also set a career-best in the event with a time of 1:01.47.

The field events also performed well at the meet, particularly in the javelin for both teams. Aaliyah Johnson claimed the bronze in the women's event with a toss of 33.46 meters. Anna Parrott finished the meet off with a 5.10 meter jump in the long jump, the longest for the Storm women this outdoor season. Ulysses Patterson and Clarke Latcham also each recorded heights of 3.68 meters in the pole vault, setting new career-bests in the outdoor version of the event. Patterson also cleared 12 meters in the shot put with a career-best throw of 12.28 meters.
