Kallem breaks 5000 school record, Booth claims third all-time

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Lara Kallem and Teghan Booth started the Kip Janvrin Open with a bang for Simpson, highlighted by Kallem breaking the 5000 meter school record in the night cap.

Kallem finished 11th out of 100 total competitors, clocking a blistering time of 17:37.72 to set a new school record. Kallem's time broke the previous record that had been held by Sarah Cross since 1990 by seven seconds.

Booth also had a fantastic race, joining Cross and Kallem as the only women in school history to run sub 18-minute 5k's in the outdoor version. Booth recorded a time of 17:47.20 to move into third all-time in Simpson history.

"Lara and Teghan were absolutely incredible tonight," said Simpson director of track and field Heath Moenck. "Lara breaking a school record that had stood since 1990 was special and a credit to her incredible work ethic."
