Storm open outdoor season at Pella
PELLA, Iowa - The Simpson College men and women's track and field teams opened their outdoor seasons at the Central Dutch Invite in Pella, Iowa.
Carter Berkey paced the men, winning the men's long jump in a career-best 7.24 meters. Berkey, who broke the indoor long jump school record in the winter, now moves into second place all-time on the outdoor long jump list with the performance.
Joseph Sams recorded a 23.02 in the 200 meter dash, an almost second improvement from his best time from the indoor season. Andrew Klein took third in the 3000 meters, with a time of 8:44.52. A quartet of Storm runners took the fifth through eighth spots in the event as well. Ulysses Patterson also took 10th in the men's javelin with a career-best throw of 47.06 meters.
Teghan Booth ran a 5:02.04 in the women's 1500 meters, a career-best time. Ashley Rockhold took fourth in the women's 3000 meters, recording a time of 11:09.39.
The women's 4x400 relay team consisting of Maddax DeVault, Madison Hays, Aryss Forbes, and Ava Carder took second place with a time of 4:06.42. Aaliyah Johnson was one of six athletes to tie for fourth in the women's high jump, recording a jump of 1.50 meters.

Both teams are scheduled to compete in two different meets next Saturday, one being the UW-Platteville Invite and the other being the Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines.
