Storm set for A-R-C Indoor Championships

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The 2021 American Rivers Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships are on the horizon for Simpson College this weekend. The women start the event Saturday and the men follow Sunday in Waverly, hosted by Wartburg College.

At the 2020 A-R-C Indoor Track and Field Championships, the men collected sixth place with two all-conference performers, including gold medalist Sam Adeniyi in the heptathlon. The women tallied ninth and were led by Jamie Glanz earning fifth in the high jump.

"We are excited to compete at the A-R-C Championships this weekend," head coach Dave Cleveland said. "We want to showcase the work and dedication that our kids have put in this fall and through the winter. They have done an unbelievable job adapting to all the changes this indoor season has brought and our coaching staff is extremely proud of their efforts."

Going into the championships, the Storm have nine student-athletes inside the top 10 of their respective events among conference competitors.

Mason Spree has been a force all year in the weight throw and is currently second in the league with a distance of 17.26 meters, which shattered the previous school record. His distance in the weight throw is 13th among NCAA Division III throwers. Spree is also fifth in the shot put and Brennan Linn is nearby in 10th. Carter Berkey is seventh in the long jump to round out the field events for the men.

Spencer Moon carries a fifth-place standing in the 3,000 meters and is sixth in the mile through his sophomore campaign. Moon holds a time of 8:34.50 in the 3,000, less than half a second away from clipping his school record of 8:34.45 set last season. Moon is currently 12th in the nation in the 3,000.

Audrey Arnold is having a stellar rookie season for Simpson and is currently sixth in the 60-meter hurdles and eighth in the long jump events for the women. Max Cleveland joins Arnold as the second freshman within the top 10. Cleveland has a time of 8.37 in the 60-meter hurdles for fifth and is 10th in the country in the event as well.

Mackenzie Laughlin is inside the top 20 with a time of 5:30.22 in the mile and Glanz is 14th in the high jump.

Competition begins Saturday at 10 a.m. with the pentathlon inside Hoover Fieldhouse. The men will mirror the women's schedule when they begin the championships Sunday.

Due to Wartburg's attendance policy, no outside visitors will be permitted inside Hoover Fieldhouse due to the volume of participants and lack of adequately spaced viewing areas. The event will have live video, which can be found through SimpsonAthletics.com
