Arnold paces women at Buena Vista Triangular

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- The Simpson College men's and women's track and field teams produced four first-place finishes at the Buena Vista Triangular on Saturday.

The Storm men finished second with 87 points and the women ended third with 40 points as Wartburg won both events.

A week after breaking a school record in the weight throw, senior Mason Spree captured first in the event and added another gold in the shot put. Spree had a distance of 16.72 meters to win by over five feet in the weight throw. His toss in the shot put was a personal best of 14.24 meters, two feet better than the second-place finisher.

Sophomore Max Cleveland recorded a time of 8.57 in the 60-meter hurdles for first, while also finishing fifth in the 200 meters. Freshman Brenden Godbout soared to first in the high jump at 1.70 meters and junior Carter Berkey was third in the triple jump.

Junior Craig Garrison ended second in the 200 and sophomore Spencer Moon was runner-up in the 3,000 meters, while senior Harry Dudley was third. Moon's time is now ninth fastest in the NCAA Division III. The quartet of Steven Cruz-Castro, Cleveland, Garrison and Godbout ended third in the 4x400-meter relay.

Freshman Audrey Arnold secured third place in the 60-meter hurdles after reaching the finals. She was also sixth in the long jump and eighth in the 200 meters. Junior Abby Loecke, along with freshmen Emily Erhardt and Macie Bopp, finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 800. The 4x400-meter relay of seniors Katelyn Mangold and Jamie Glanz, along with Loecke and Arnold, tallied fifth.
