Oosterhuis paces Storm against Prairie Wolves

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Simpson College women's swimming and diving team returned to the pool against Nebraska Wesleyan, highlighted by Katie Oosterhuis's victory in the 100 yard butterfly.

While the Storm dropped the overall meet, Oosterhuis paced the team, which saw multiple season bests and top event finishes. "We are incredibly happy with how we did coming off of a very challenging week of practice," said Storm head coach Adam Cvetich. "Now we are going to rest up and go fast at Grinnell next month."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Oosterhuis set a season best in the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 1:06.42 to win the event.
  • Kate Minette placed second in the 200 yard individual medley (2:35.73), while Keelin Curley took second in the 100 yard freestyle (58.49)
  • Maude Steinbeck swam a season-best 5:59.54 in the 500 yard medley relay, setting a new season best to take third place.
  • Katelyn Smith swam a 1:26.13 in the 100 yard breaststroke for a new season-best.
  • Both Storm relays also had success on the day. The 200 yard medley relay team of Isabelle Gomez, Steinbeck, Breana Hinson, and Curley swam a 2:06.90 for a new season best by almost five seconds.
  • The 200 yard freestyle relay team featuring Oosterhuis, Curley, Steinbeck, and Minette took second in 1:46.97, just tenths of seconds away from another season-best.
