Both Storm swim teams open home season in tri-meet

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Both of the Simpson College swimming and diving teams opened their home seasons with a tri-meet against fellow conference opponents Luther and Nebraska Wesleyan.

The Storm were swimming in their first meet at the newly branded Indianola Wellness Center, with each team putting in some good performances in a variety of individual and relay events.

HOW IT HAPPENED - WOMEN

  • Kate Minette turned in the highest individual placing in the 50 yard freestyle, placing second with a time of 25.59. Oosterhuis took fifth with a time of 26.17.
  • Minette also claimed the bronze in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 57.93. Keelin Curley was not too far behind in fourth with a time of 58.42
  • Oosterhuis recorded top-five finishes in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:18.60 and the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.10.
  • Lennox Gradoville and Breana Hinson joined Oosterhuis and Minette to take third in the 200 yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:48.28.
  • Maude Steinbeck clocked a time of 12:43.24 in the 1,000 yard freestyle to take third in the event.

HOW IT HAPPENED - MEN

  • Jay Ceperley took fifth in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 50.18, just tenths of seconds off his career-best.
  • The senior followed it up with a fifth-place finish in the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 23.18.
  • Christopher Olds swam a career-best in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:17.18.
  • Olds and Ceperley were joined by Nathan Parkins and Gabe Bruns in the 200 yard freestyle relay, shaving off almost three seconds off last week's time at the Spire Relays.

The Storm travel to Loras next Saturday for a dual meet with the Duhawks.
