Bell, Crockett propel Storm in win at Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Emily Bell and Megan Crockett provided the spark the Simpson softball team needed to earn its first American Rivers Conference victory of the year on Tuesday at Dubuque. The Storm won 6-2 in the first game, but fell 8-0 in the later matchup.

Simpson sits at 14-10 overall and 1-3 in A-R-C play with 14 games remaining on the regular season schedule. The Spartans are now 14-7 and 1-3 in the league.

Crockett opened the scoring for both teams in the third inning with a two-run homer over the right field fence. Crockett would hit two more runners in during the sixth inning coming on a triple.

The Storm pushed a run across in the fifth when Amron Born scored off the bat of Sara Trent, who reached on an error. Camrey Leo would then have an RBI single in the inning as well.

The four RBIs pushed Crockett's season and team-leading total to 18, while she only had one all of last season.

Bell earned her seventh victory of the season inside the circle. She had three strikeouts and allowed two runs to score, keeping her earned-run average at 1.56.

Dubuque 8, Simpson 0 (five innings)
The offense stalled in game two and only managed to have two hits in the contest, after ripping nine in the opener.

Kayla Reusche and Bell each had a hit for Simpson. Crockett managed to reach base on three occasions during the game and has an on-base percentage of .459

Dubuque tallied a run in four of the five innings and scored two-or-more in three frames.
