Crockett powers Storm sweep at North Park

CHICAGO -- Megan Crockett drove in the game-winning run in game one, hit a two-run homer in game two, and the Simpson softball team won its final two games at the North Park Invitational on Sunday. The Storm beat North Park 3-2 in eight innings and topped Olivet 5-3.

The Storm improve to 13-7 with the sweep and have won 7 of 8.

Simpson 3, North Park 2 (8 innings)
Crockett drove in the go-ahead run on a single in the top of the eighth and Emily Bell polished off a complete-game gem as the Storm held off the host Vikings. Bell helped her own cause with a single to lead off the eighth, allowing pinch-runner Olivia Allen to score on Crockett's single to right.

Bell (6-1) tossed a complete game for the second day in row, holding North Park to two runs—both earned—off seven hits. She struck out seven and walked two, surrendering both runs on a game-tying, two-out double by Amara Leith in the seventh.

Brynna Bowman gave Simpson a 1-0 lead on an RBI double in the third and Amron Born's RBI single made it 2-0 in the seventh.

Simpson 5, Olivet 3
Crockett broke open a 3-2 game with a two-run bomb in the sixth and Brooke Fonley got out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh to earn her second save. Kayla Reusche went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored and Crockett drove in three runs to lead the Storm at the plate.

Randie Richmond (3-0) enjoyed a quality start, giving up three runs—one earned—off seven hits in 6-plus innings. She left the game for Fonley after issuing back-to-back walks to begin the seventh.

Crockett hit a sacrifice fly and Sara Trent plated an RBI double to give Simpson a 2-0 lead in the first. Richmond helped out her own cause in the third when her RBI single made it 3-1. Olivet pulled within 3-2 with a run in the fourth before Crockett gave Simpson extra cushion with her second home run of the season.
