Storm drop pair of A-R-C games to Central

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- In the opening weekend of American Rivers Conference play for the Simpson softball team, the Storm dropped two contests to Central on Sunday.

Simpson lost 6-3 in the opener and was held scoreless in a 11-0 affair, pushing its record to 13-9 overall. The Dutch improved to 10-4 and have now won 10-straight contests in the series and 12 in a row in Indianola.

Central 6, Simpson 3
The Storm made things interesting in the top of the first by loading the bases with no outs. Emily Bell was able to get out of the jam by starting a double play. After fielding a one-hopper, Bell fired it back to her battery mate, Ashley Allen, who then tossed it to first for the second out. Simpson got out of the jam after Sara Trent stepped on third base for the force out.

Bell proved she is a threat on offense and belted a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to give the squad a quick 1-0 lead. The Dutch answered in the second with a run to bring the game to a tie. In the bottom of the second inning, Trent repeated Bell and lead the inning off with a solo shot, making it 2-1.

Simpson held the lead up to the fifth inning, when Central plated four runs on two hits, but forced the Storm to commit two errors. In the bottom of the frame, Simpson tallied another run to make it 5-3, but the visitors would push another run across in the seventh to make it 6-3 and held on to win.

Bell went the distance inside the circle and now holds a 4-2 record for the year. She led the offense as well with three hits.

Central 11, Simpson 0 (five innings)
In the finale on Sunday, both teams held tight until the top of the third, when the Dutch plated 10 runs. Coming off of nine hits, Central tallied four runs on one swing from Sadie Baugher for a grand slam.

The visitors added another run in the fifth to add an insurance run to end the contest in five innings.

The Storm finished with four hits in the game, with Kayla Reusche claiming three of them. Camrey Leo had the other base hit.
