Adeniyi wins heptathlon to highlight A-R-C Championships

DECORAH, Iowa -- Sam Adeniyi became the first indoor champion since 2018 for the Simpson track and field teams after winning the heptathlon on the final day of the American Rivers Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

The men ended the championships in sixth, while the women came in ninth after the two-day event.

Adeniyi scored 4,667 points to garner all-conference honors for the second time in his career in the event. Adeniyi's title is the first in the event since Isaac Frazier topped the podium in 2016. En route to grabbing gold, Adeniyi earned first in four events. His performances in the long jump (6.41m), high jump (1.91m) and 55-meter hurdles (8.15) are all facility records in the heptathlon.

Austin Greenwalt captured the Storm's second all-conference accolade after joining Adeniyi on the podium in the heptathlon with a third-place nod. Greenwalt ended second in the high jump and used three fourth-place marks to stay in contention.

Spencer Moon finished fourth in the mile to narrowly miss all-conference recognition. His season-best mark of 4:19.55 was just shy of passing Luther's Ian Kelly, who ran a 4:19.54 for third. Craig Garrison had the same fate with a fourth-place result in the 55-meter dash. Garrison also ended fifth in the 200 and 400 to come within earshot of three all-conference performances.

The quartet of Josh Paulson, Quentin Linnan, Clay Billeheimer and Moon produced fourth place in the 4x800-meter relay, just missing the cut by a second.

A day after ending fifth in the pentathlon, Jamie Glanz highlighted the women in the high jump. Glanz soared to fifth with a jump of 1.53 meters. Katelyn Mangold tallied 12th in the 400 meters, Mackenzie Laughlin was 15th in the mile and Kylee Bass ran a personal-best 2:42.63 in the 800.

The 4x800-meter relay of Abby Loecke, Cat Lucht, Sophie Hall and Laughlin ended seventh in 10:06.68.
