Adeniyi records A-R-C weekly honor

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Sam Adeniyi sprinted, jumped, vaulted and tossed his way to an American Rivers Conference Track and Field Performer of the Week award after finishing first in the heptathlon on Saturday, the league announced on Monday.

Adeniyi is this week's field honoree after finishing first in three events and second in three more to tally 4,555 points at the Wartburg Select Invitational. The senior won by 138 points to help the Simpson men's track and field team earn third place.

Adeniyi is now leading the Storm in the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, long jump and pole vault events.

Simpson returns to competition on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Darren Young Invitational hosted by Grinnell College.

• Senior from Roseville, Minn.
• Finished first in the heptathlon at the Wartburg Select Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 1
• Recorded wins in the high jump (1.92m), long jump (6.48m) and shot put (11.26m) to tally 4,555 points to top a field of seven competitors
• Ended second in the 60-meter dash (7.51), 60-meter hurdles (8.72) and pole vault (3.35m) events at the meet
• Currently second in the A-R-C and 13th in the nation in the heptathlon
• This is Adeniyi's first conference weekly honor
