Simpson trio named regular season All-Americans by CGA
INDIANOLA, Iowa - With the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships and NCAA postseason on the horizon, the Simpson College men's gymnastics team had three athletes named College Gymnastics Association All-Americans for their performances during the regular season.
The top eight performers in each event and the all-around were selected based on their four-score average according to Road to Nationals. Braxton Jones ranked seventh on vault, while Brian Rollison and Jake Smith were seventh and eighth, respectively, in the all-around.
Jones put together a record-breaking vault season, averaging a 14.183 while leading the Storm in all nine meets. He achieved Simpson's highest-ever vault score on January 24 against Navy, and later topped that with a 14.450 against Springfield. His routine earned three ECAC weekly honors throughout the regular season.
Rollison (72.700) and Smith (71.617) both competed in four all-around competitions to close the regular season. They each recorded career highs against Greenville, with Rollison earning a 74.200 and Smith a 74.050. Rollison's top scores consistently came on rings, the same event he won at the USAG Championships last weekend while achieving a program-high 13.950. Smith showcased his all-around ability with consistent success on floor and vault, averaging above 13.000 in both events.
All three gymnasts will look to build on their success as they compete at the ECAC Championships, set for Saturday at 1 p.m. inside Cowles Fieldhouse.
