Storm claim fifth at Rocky Mountain Open

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Simpson College men's gymnastics team finished fifth at the Rocky Mountain Open on Saturday, defeating Arizona State and the Rocky Mountain Mavericks.

The Storm improved their team score from opening weekend by nearly four points thanks to season highs on floor (50.500), pommel horse (46.650) and still rings (50.700).

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS

  • Braxton Jones earned a stellar 14.150 on vault, becoming just the fourth Simpson gymnast to achieve higher than a 14.000 in any event.
  • Alex Catchpole was the team's leader on pommel horse and parallel bars, earning 12.500 on each apparatus. 
  • Jake Smith and Paul Tiedemann both registered a 12.900 on floor to lead the Storm, with Tiedemann also posting a team-high score on high bar (11.600). 
  • Brian Rollison recorded a season-high 13.300 on rings to rank first in Simpson's lineup.
