Simpson breaks 300, claims two event wins and 10 podium finishes

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College men's gymnastics team put together its strongest performance of the season, breaking the 300-point barrier for the first time with a season-high 302.300 in a matchup against Greenville.

The Storm secured team victories on floor and high bar while also recording season-best marks on four events. Simpson won 10 individual medals, highlighted by event champions Tristan Shorey (floor) and Brian Rollison (all-around).

MEET HIGHLIGHTS

  • Tristan Shorey dominated the floor competition with a 13.400, improving his career best by almost a full point and earning the second-highest floor score ever at Simpson.
  • Alex Campbell also set a new career high on floor, surpassing 13 points for the first time to tie for second.
  • Alex Catchpole tied his personal best on pommel horse (13.050) to claim second place.
  • Ethan Drake surpassed 12 points on pommel horse for the first time in his collegiate career, garnering a 12.200.
  • Connor Jenkins improved his career best on still rings for the second week in a row with a 12.500. He followed Brian Rollison (13.300) and Alex Campbell (13.050) in scoring for the Storm. Rollison placed second, while Campbell took third.
  • Braxton Jones placed third on vault with a 14.050.
  • Campbell and Rollison set new personal bests on vault, while Campbell also recorded a new career high on parallel bars.
  • Paul Tiedemann swung his way to a new personal best and second place medal on high bar with a 12.950. Jake Smith finished one place behind him with a 12.700 and Rollison recorded a career high 12.400.
  • Smith and Rollison competed all-around for the first time in their careers. In a close head-to-head battle, Rollison edged Smith 74.200-74.050 for the trophy.
  • Along with their best all-around score, the Storm earned season-best marks on floor, pommel horse, vault, and high bar.

UP NEXT
Simpson goes on the road for two duals next weekend beginning with Army on Friday night at 5 p.m. The Storm then takes on Springfield on Sunday at noon.
