
Smith, Catchpole earn podium finishes at Michigan
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Jake Smith and Alex Catchpole both secured podium finishes to lead the Simpson College men's gymnastics team in its 2025 season opener at Michigan.
Smith tied for second on floor with a score of 12.700, while Catchpole tied for third on parallel bars with a 12.550. Catchpole nearly earned a second podium finish on pommel horse, but came in fourth with a 12.850. Brian Rollison (rings) and Braxton Jones (vault) also notched a pair of fourth-place medals.
Simpson earned a team score of 287.400, coming in behind Michigan (310.900) and Greenville (299.450). The Storm finished second in the team race on rings (49.650) and earned their highest score of the day on vault (53.450).

Simpson heads to Colorado for the Rocky Mountain Open hosted by Air Force on Jan. 18.
