Simpson battles William & Mary in Indianola

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Three individuals won events and the Simpson College men's gymnastics team posted its second-highest score of the season in a home dual against William & Mary on Sunday.

The Storm recorded season-high marks on floor (51.400) and parallel bars (48.700) and had three individual champions in Jake Smith (floor), Alex Catchpole (pommel), and Braxton Jones (vault). Catchpole added a second place medal on parallel bars, while Alex Campbell and Milo Staley finished second and third, respectively, in the all-around.

William and Mary won the meet 310.150-295.150.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS

  • Jake Smith competed in three events, winning floor with a career-best 13.500 before setting a new season high on vault (13.400).
  • Alex Campbell competed in his first all-around and compiled a 73.200 to finish runner-up. He made his collegiate debut on pommel and high bar, and set a new career best on floor with a 12.900.
  • Alex Catchpole became the first Storm gymnast to win a pommel horse title, claiming first place with a 12.700. He also tied his season high of 13.250 on parallel bars to earn second place.
  • Milo Staley registered a career-high 12.000 on high bar as well as season highs on floor (12.400), rings (11.950) and parallel bars (11.850) en route to his best all-around score of the year (71.750).
  • Making his collegiate debut on rings, Ethan Drake registered a team-high 12.550. Connor Jenkins also set a personal best on rings with a 12.300.
  • Jake Sweeten led the Storm on high bar with a season-high 12.200.
