Rollison wins rings, Simpson tallies four All-America medals at USAG Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Brian Rollison made history for the Simpson College men's gymnastics team at the USAG Championships, winning the program's first-ever USAG Champion medal on still rings and securing All-America honors in the all-around. Alex Catchpole and Braxton Jones also earned a pair of top-six finishes, giving the Storm a total of four All-America honors.

After breaking the program rings record with a meet-high 13.950 on Friday, Rollison finished atop the podium with a 13.350 on Saturday, earning Simpson's first-ever USAG Champion medal. It was his second All-America honor of the weekend after finishing sixth in Friday's all-around competition, which saw him post three new career highs.

Catchpole came in third on pommel horse to secure his second consecutive All-America honor in the event, while Jones claimed fourth on vault as one of just two freshmen in the finals.

The Storm eclipsed 300 points for the second time this season in Friday's team round. Simpson registered season-high marks on parallel bars and high bar, and had seven gymnasts earn a new personal best in at least one event.

FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Simpson began the meet with a 51.300 on floor, with Jake Smith's 13.100 leading the way. Brian Rollison (13.050) and Braxton Jones (12.950) set new career highs.
  • Alex Catchpole scored a 13.000 on pommel horse to lead the Storm in their second rotation, qualifying for the finals for the second year in a row. William Bacus finished second for Simpson with a career-best 12.300.
  • Simpson's third rotation was highlighted by Rollison besting his own school rings record from the anchor spot. His 13.950 was not only a new program best, but also the highest rings score of all 27 competitors at the meet. The Storm achieved three stick bonuses during the rotation.
  • For the ninth time this season, Jones led Simpson on vault, recording a 13.850 to advance to Saturday's finals. His score tied for the fifth-highest at the meet. Alex Campbell was next for Simpson with a 13.350.
  • Simpson registered a season-high 49.100 on parallel bars, led by Paul Tiedemann (12.700) and Eric Simon (12.600), who both set new personal bests. Jake Smith added a season-high score of 12.200, and Rollison tied his season high of 12.000.
  • Tiedemann led the Storm again on high bar, earning a 12.700 to narrowly miss a spot in the finals. Rollison, Smith and Brennan Voss all achieved career highs to help fuel the team to a season-best score of 49.800.
  • Much thanks to three career-high marks, Rollison finished sixth in the all-around with a 74.000.

NOTES
