Storm drop final two matches to wrap up conference season

WAVERLY, Iowa - The Simpson College women's tennis team concluded its final two matches of the conference season, dropping road matches at Coe and Wartburg.

The Storm (2-7, 2-6 A-R-C) concluded its conference season in seventh position, the team's predicted position in the preseason poll.

Coe 7, Simpson 2

The Kohawks (8-2, 7-1 A-R-C) came into the match still in contention for the conference regular season title. Coe took a 1-0 lead at the No. 2 doubles, but the Storm rebounded to tie the match at 1-1 with a win from the duo of Maddie Haskell and Coilee Hynek at No. 3 doubles. The Kohawks staved off a comeback charge at the No. 1 spot to take a 2-1 lead into singles.

The Storm were unable to keep up in singles, as Coe swept the No. 1 through No. 5 matches to claim victory in the match. However, Maggie Hall rebounded from a first-set defeat to win the second set and then win the Storm's second point with a 10-5 win in the third set supertiebreaker.

Wartburg 8, Simpson 1

The Storm's second match of the weekend had a similar outcome, with the Storm being competitive in doubles from the start. Despite the Knights (5-3, 4-3 A-R-C) taking two of three, Tranquilino teamed up with Anna Schewe to win at No. 2 doubles, 8-4. However, the Knights swept the singles matches to claim the win.
