Simpson dispatches of Buena Vista in home opener

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson College women's tennis team rebounded in its home opener to handily defeat Buena Vista, 8-1.

Despite the rain moving play indoors after the match had started, that did not slow the Storm (1-1, 1-1 A-R-C) down. The Storm took two of three doubles matches off of the Beavers (0-4, 0-2 A-R-C). The Beavers initially won the first point at No. 3 doubles, but Simpson rebounded to claim the other two points, taking a 2-1 lead into singles.

The Storm rolled on in singles, winning all six matches. Four newcomers to the Storm roster claimed singles wins, with five players overall winning in straight sets. Bella Tranquilino, an all-conference performer a year ago, dropped the second set of her match at No. 1 singles, but came in clutch in the third set super tiebreaker to finish off a clean sweep of the singles matches.

Tranquilino and doubles teammate Maddie Haskell won both of their matches, along with newcomers Grace Peck and Savana Walls. Maggie Hall and Coilee Hynek also won their singles matches in straight sets as the Storm have now won every overall match against the Beavers since the 2013-14 season.

The Storm will play a doubleheader tomorrow in Pella, Iowa at two different locations. The team will take on Central at the Central Tennis Courts at noon, before taking on Truman at 4:30 p.m. at Pella Christian High School in a neutral site match.
