Duhawks defeat Storm in conference play

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson College women's tennis team fought hard, but fell to Loras in American Rivers Conference play at home on Friday afternoon.

The Duhawks (6-1, 3-0 A-R-C) received some resistance from the Storm (1-5, 1-4 A-R-C), particularly at doubles. The team of Bella Tranqulino and Anna Schewe nearly put Simpson on the board at the No. 2 doubles spot, but Loras snuck out a win to take a 3-0 lead into singles.

"We played some great points all around," said Storm head coach Faith Bliss. "The 30° temperature hike definitely took a toll on some of the players, but as is the case for every obstacle, everyone had to endure it."

The Storm finally played a full match at home outdoors, after weather forced both of their previous matches indoors. However, Loras proved to be too much in singles, despite positive signs in many of the individual matches for the Storm.

"Doubles looked a lot better tonight for us," continued Bliss. "As a young, inexperienced match play team, these last few competitions have been closer than what the score book says. I'm proud of these ladies and the fight they bring every match."
