Storm unable to keep pace in Saturday doubleheader

PELLA, Iowa - The Simpson College women's tennis team could not keep up with Central and Truman, dropping both matches on Saturday afternoon.

The Storm (1-3, 1-2 A-R-C) got wins from Bella Tranquilino and Grace Peck in singles against Central, but could not keep the momentum for the rest of the day. 

Central 7, Simpson 2

The Storm first faced off with the Dutch (3-2, 2-1 A-R-C) at Central. Central took all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead into singles, but the Storm had better success in singles.

Tranquilino won at No. 1 singles in straight sets, as the all-conference performer cut into the Dutch lead. However, wins from Central at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots clinched the match, giving the Dutch an insurmountable 5-1 lead. Peck got another point on the board for the Storm, winning in straight sets at the No. 3 spot.

Truman 9, Simpson 0

The Storm had less success against a talented Truman (1-1) team. Like Central, Truman took a 3-0 lead after doubles into the singles portion of the competition. Maggie Hall took the first set in a tiebreaker at No. 5 singles, but the Bulldogs came away with wins in all six singles matches to claim the overall win.
