Petersen named IIAC Player of the Week

Iowa Conference Release

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Simpson women's soccer goalkeeper Megan Petersen earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Defensive Player of the Week honors for the period ending Oct. 9, the conference office announced late Monday.

Petersen, a junior from Indianola, Iowa, made a career-high 15 saves in the Storm's 2-1, overtime loss to No. 10 Wartburg on Saturday, Oct. 8. The mark was two away from tying a school record.

Simpson made a serious upset bid on the road, getting out to a 1-0 lead and holding off a furious offensive attack from the Knights, who took 29 shots in the game.

The weekly honor is the second of Petersen's career. As a freshman, Petersen was named first team all-conference as the Storm advanced to the IIAC Championship game as the No. 5 seed.

The Storm take the pitch at Buxton Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 12 when they host Buena Vista at 7 p.m.
