Bird named Second Team Academic All-District

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Simpson women's soccer player Katherine Bird earned a spot on the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District VIII Women's Soccer Second Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Friday.

Bird, a senior midfielder from Iowa City, Iowa, achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 while double-majoring in environmental science and psychology. A Second Team All-Iowa Conference pick in 2010, Bird led the Storm in scoring each of the last two seasons. She had 25 points in 2010 and 23 in 2011, combining for 18 goals and 12 assists in her final two years.

To be eligible for consideration for Academic All-District, student-athletes must own a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
