Storm fall from undefeated ranks

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson women's soccer team fell from the undefeated ranks Wednseday night, dropping a 2-0 decision to Grand View.

Jordyn Thompson scored twice for the Vikings (3-4), who have outscored Simpson 5-0 over the last two seasons.

The Storm (4-1-1) didn't get a lot of quality looks against the Grand View defense, attempting six shots and putting one on goal. Susan Leslie's attempt late in the second half from 30 yards out was the only shot Simpson put between the posts.

Thompson broke into the scoring column in the 12 minute, flicking a header off a corner kick from Kayla Pitman. She added an insurance goal in the 69th minute, taking a feed from Kaity Neyens.

Megan Petersen and Jess Toyne split time in goal for the Storm, with Toyne making three saves. Katie Zenze made one save in the shutout for the Vikings.

The women's soccer team returns to the pitch Sunday, Sept. 18 when it hosts Culver-Stockton in a p.m. start from Buxton Stadium.
