Storm remain undefeated with 2-1 win against Clarke

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Freshman Amber Johnson gave the Simpson women's soccer team a 2-0 lead in the 82nd minute and the Storm held on for a 2-1 win against Clarke on Sunday at the St. Catherine Invitational.

With the win, the Storm (3-0) are off to their best start since 1999. That year, head coach Aziz Haffar's team won its first six games and went on to win the Iowa Conference title.

Clarke (0-2) outshot Simpson 14-9 but the Storm put all but two of their shot attempts on goal.

Johnson was the perfect model of accuracy, making good on her only shot attempt of the game. Katherine Bird opened the scoring when Ashlee Krider found her in the 35th minute.

Megan Petersen made five saves in goal, picking up her second win of the season.

Danni Garcia got Clarke on the board in the 87th minute and Kaylee Steen made five saves.

Simpson puts its undefeated record on the line next weekend when it travels to Minnesota for a pair of non-conference games. The Storm face Bethel on Friday, Sept. 9 in a 2 p.m. kickoff and Crown on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m.
