Kincaid’s last second shot lifts Storm over Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. -- Cameron Kincaid scored the game-winning basket with seconds left to help the Simpson women's basketball team win 78-76 at Coe on Saturday.

Kincaid scored the final six points for the Storm (19-6, 11-5 American Rivers), sending the team home in winning fashion to end the regular season. Kincaid tied the game at 74-74 and gave the squad a lead at 76-74 with 30 seconds to go. The Kohawks (15-10, 9-7) tied the game with a pair of free throws with eight seconds remaining and head coach Brian Niemuth took a timeout to talk things through.

Coming out of the conversation, Simpson had their offensive targets on the court and Kincaid was able to drain her shot coming off a pass from Jenna Taylor.

At the seven minute mark in the fourth, Simpson was down by nine points at 70-61 and were able to tie it at 72-72 as Jenna Taylor scored nine points during that span.

The Storm had to overcome a few deficits in the second half after going up by nine points early in the first quarter. Simpson took a 19-14 lead into the first break, but Coe came out ready in the second quarter.

The Kohawks nearly doubled the scoring output of Simpson and put up 30 points, while the visitors netted 16. The hosts went 6 of 8 from behind the arc and 12 of 17 from the floor, while the Storm went 2 of 7 from deep and 7 of 17 overall.

Simpson used halftime to make the necessary adjustments and shot 60 percent from the floor and held Coe to 41.7 percent and went into the final quarter down 59-56.

Overall, the Storm shot 51.8 percent and 43.5 from three.

Taylor led all scorers with 28 points and also grabbed seven rebounds. Taylor tallied 10 of her points during the final quarter. Kincaid chipped in with 18 and Rachel Freland tabbed 17.
