Storm hit 20 3s in route of Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Cassie Chubb scored a game-high 21 points and the Simpson women's basketball team shattered the school record for 3-pointers in a game, cruising to a 102-65 win over Dubuque on Saturday.

Simpson went 20-for-37 from 3-point range, breaking the school record of 16 set earlier this season. The mark is the most in Division III this season.

Chubb shot 4-for-8 from 3-point range and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Storm (11-3, 3-2 American Rivers). Jenna Taylor scored 14 points and Cameron Kincaid and Claire Johnson had 12 apiece.

Simpson pulled away with a 13-0 run in the first quarter, capped off by a Chubb 3 with 6:05 left that made it 16-4. Dubuque pulled within five early in the second quarter, but Simpson responded with a 17-4 spurt to put the game out of reach.

Every member of Simpson's starting lineup made a 3. Taylor and Janey Botkins made three each as the Storm surpassed the previous national-high of 19 set by Western Connecticut State earlier this season.

The Storm responded from Wednesday's loss to Loras with one of its best shooting performances of the season, hitting better than 55 percent from the floor.

Josphine Thomas scored a team-high 10 points for the Spartans (2-12, 0-5), who lost for the 12th time in 13 games after winning the season-opener against Finlandia.
