Storm lead from wire-to-wire in win over Saint Mary’s

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- Jenna Taylor scored a game-high 18 points and the Simpson women's basketball team led from the opening tip to the final buzzer in a 72-62 win over Saint Mary's (Minn.) at St. Benedict's Quinlivan & Hughes Tip-Off Tournament.

Claire Johnson narrowly missed a triple double, finishing with 11 points, nine rebounds and eight assists for the Storm (2-0). Cameron Kincaid scored 14 points and Taylor pulled down nine rebounds, falling just shy of a second-consecutive double-double.

Simpson led by single digits for most of the first three quarters before mounting a big 16-0 run to take control of the game. Kincaid made back-to-back buckets to close the third quarter then hit a layup to give the Storm a commanding 63-40 lead with 8 minutes left. Kia Rasmussen and Rachel Freland made 3-pointers during the rally.

Brooklyn Paulson scored 16 points as the only player in double figures for the Cardinals (0-1).

The quartet of Taylor, Kincaid, Freland and Johnson shot almost 57 percent from the field, going a combined 21-for-37. Taylor went 7-for-14 and 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, Kincaid went 6-for-10, Freland went 4-for-7 and Johnson went 4-for-6.
