Four earn spots on CSC Academic All-District Team

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College baseball team had four players - Will Carlock, Dallas Jackson, Lucas Juhl and Bennett Wadstrom - earn Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.

The College Sports Communicators, formerly known as College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To qualify, all nominees must be a sophomore in academic standing, a starter or key reserve, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. The full team can be viewed by clicking HERE.

A sophomore catcher from San Diego, Calif., Carlock is majoring in sports administration with a coaching minor. He played in 35 games this season, recording 30 hits and 16 RBIs in 114 at-bats. Carlock hit two doubles and two home runs, including a game-winning three-run blast in a 5-4 win over Wis.-Superior on March 17. He also threw out 11 runners from behind the plate to tie for second in the conference.

Jackson, a right hand pitcher from Indianola, graduated this spring with a degree in health and exercise science. He made 10 appearances and nine starts for the Storm as a senior, earning three wins including two in conference play against Wartburg and then-No. 24 Buena Vista. Jackson tallied 38 strikeouts and ended the year with a 5.36 ERA.

Juhl also graduated this spring with a degree in sports administration. An Ankeny, Iowa native, Juhl batted .258 with 31 hits including nine doubles. He led the team with 25 RBIs and scored 12 times. Splitting time between second and third base, Juhl registered a .950 fielding percentage and helped turn seven double plays.

A sophomore infielder from Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Wadstrom is majoring in criminal justice at Simpson. He started all 40 games at shortstop and recorded 24 hits and a team-high 18 walks. Wadstrom had five hits go for extra bases, scored 18 times and drove in eight runs. He also stole four bases in seven attempts.

All four honorees will now be placed on the Academic All-America ballot with first-, second- and third-team honorees slated to be announced in early June.
