Simpson falls to Dubuque

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Hunter Hicks hit a grand slam early in the first and Dubuque pounded out 10 hits altogether to defeat the Simpson College baseball team 15-0 in seven innings on Friday.

After the game was pushed back two hours due to rain, the Spartans (25-11, 12-9 A-R-C) jumped on the Storm early with five runs in the first fueled by Hicks' grand slam to left field. Hicks sent another one out of the park two innings later to extend the lead to six and Colton Pfeifer hit an RBI single in the fifth to make it 7-0.

Dubuque scored four times in the sixth before the game was stalled another hour due to weather. The Spartans came out of the delay and tacked on four more runs before Edward Rosas sent the Storm down in order to secure the complete game shutout.

The Storm (15-23, 5-17 A-R-C) managed just three hits in the game. Zach Fuller had the lone extra-base hit for the hosts, leading off the bottom of the third with a double down the left field line.
