Baseball drops game three in extras

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College baseball team dropped the finale of its three-game home series with Wartburg on Saturday morning, falling 4-2 in the 10-inning affair.

The Knights (9-15, 4-11 A-R-C) prevented the series sweep with the win after Simpson (13-17, 3-11 A-R-C) took both of Friday's contests.

Simpson pieced together a leadoff walk from Bennett Wadstrom and singles from Matthew Marquez, Brady Held and Lucas Juhl to take a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the third. The lead was short lived, though, as Wartburg scored one in the fourth to level the game at 2-2.

The Storm had the first real opportunity by either team to break the tie in the eighth, loading the bases with an Ian Baldwin double, an intentional walk of Held and a Juhl walk. However, the Knights were able to pick up the final out to escape unscathed. After neither team scored in the ninth, Wartburg pushed the go-ahead runs across via a bases-loaded walk and sacrifice fly.

Baldwin led the offense with two hits, while Juhl brought his RBI total for the series to 10.
